recently headed to joshua tree for an art event that i participated in along with my studio mates over at elephant. we built a stage that resembled our backyard. barb wire, cacti, hula hoops and all. on the stage many a performance by a friend or a stranger danced us / rocked us / took us… in to the night! the desert was littered in sculptures and survivors of the days sun rays.
we had originally planned on camping but thanks to last minute heat fear we landed a sweet rental on air bnb in 29 palms. we shared a large house that as it turns out had quite the history in town, a pool that overlooked the basin and hills and was surrounded by native flora and other friendly plants. nights spent swimming in the salt water pool under a huge blanket of stars certainly makes it on my list of favorite things to do.
the event ended with a much needed sound bath at the integratron, a meal at pappy & harriets and lucky for us, my man and i shared another night and day in the desert with swimming and some more art viewing. folks say that the sea heals. i agree, but they should also try the desert. nothing like a huge sky above you in the wild west.
